There is an old saying that we just need three things in life: the first is someone to love, the second is something to do, and the third is something to look forward to. It sounds quite simple, really.
Unpacking the finding someone to love, it is a very basic human need to be meaningfully engaged in a relationship. In the 1965 song written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach, the lyrics are just as poignant today:
‘What the world needs now is love, sweet love.
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of.
What the world needs now is love, sweet love.
No, not just for some but for everyone.’
The greatest love story in history was when love came down from heaven. God is love, and we can love because he first loved us. This sort of love is meant to be a protection from all the distractions and evil so prevalent in the world today. If you find in your heart space to elevate your trust in this eternal promise, your problems and circumstances can shift dramatically.
